Baby Switch!
May 31, 2012 - June 19, 2012

Stranded in a storm, Sam and Tea give birth, Heather up to no good, Jason has John beat up, Babies are switched, Sam learns her baby died, Heather and Todd make a deal, Sam blames Jason for her baby’s death.

At Sonny's office, Jason and Sonny discuss the trouble with John McBain. They discuss riding out McBain's warrant, and Sonny denies having anything to do with McBain's sister's death. He is worried McBain will find out Kate caused the accident and she will lose everything. Jason agrees to send him a message. Before he leaves, Sonny tells Jason that Sam loves him despite pushing him away. If Jason can get past McBain, Sonny thinks they can work through it. Sam needs Jason, not McBain.

Meanwhile, in a parking garage, Todd finds Tea lying on the ground. He wakes her up and she is confused. She fell running to court. He explains that Starr is free and she can't believe his blackmail worked. He wants to get her to a hospital and after some fighting she gets in the back of the car. They are on the road in the rain discussing the case. He doesn't think it is blackmail if everyone gets what they want. However, he is upset that his granddaughter is dead and there is no resolution. As they are fighting Tea goes into labor. The car spins out of control to avoid something in the road. Todd checks it out and tells her they are stuck in a mud pit with no cell service. Her contractions are getting stronger and the baby is coming now!

Elseware, Heather is driving around with Anthony's body in the passenger seat next to her. It is raining hard, but she is just chatting with the body, glad she is able to take care of Luke. He is lucky to have her in his life and will soon realize they belong together -- as long as no one finds the body!

John opens his hotel door to Sam. She wonders if he was behind Jason's arrest, but he is more interested to hear what she thinks. She knows he didn't do it. He thinks she must understand him because he didn't. She knows that Jason thinks everything that is going wrong is John's fault. He agrees. He could be using Sam to get to Jason to get to Sonny. On the other hand, he could want her for himself – in Jason's mind. The storm is making her anxious. He wonders if she should go home to be with her husband but she knows there is wall up she can't break through. She tells him that Jason suggested she give the baby up for adoption. He won't connect with the baby and she can't let that happen. She goes to leave and has a contraction. They have no phone and the contractions are getting stronger. Her water breaks. He lays her down on the bed and tries to calm her down and she won't let him leave. She is having the baby right now!

At the penthouse, Jason gives some thugs the location of McBain's hotel room. He wants them to make sure he is alone and to leave Sam out of it.

Meanwhile, Sam is in labor in John's room and won't let him leave to get help. She is in a lot of pain and he holds onto her, assuring her they will do it together. He wants her to concentrate on something and she asks for the dragon figurine in her purse. She is focusing and breathing and wants Jason. He thinks Jason would tell her he was sorry, he loves her and will stand by the baby for the rest of his life. She delivers the baby and he starts crying. John swaddles him and hands her the baby. She doesn't know what she would have done without him. He leaves to get the car and is ambushed by the thugs in the hallway. They dump his beaten body outside. Inside, Sam notices how much the baby looks like Jason. The baby is having some breathing problems. She wraps him up and waits for John.

In the stuck car, Tea grabs Todd. She is having the baby right now, and this is the last place she wants to be. He promises her the baby will be perfect. He gets her outside to a bus stop with a first aid kit and the two of them laugh a bit hysterically over the situation. He gets serious and apologizes for what he has done in the past and wants to move forward. It is time to push and he delivers the baby. She asks if it is a boy and Todd is quiet. She asks to hold him but there is something wrong. She wonders why he isn't crying but Todd doesn't know. He doesn't know if he is breathing. Tea begs him to take the baby to the hospital now. He runs off and she gets back in the car. She still has no signal, but sees a picture of her and Victor.

Heather is waiting out the rain in her car, anxious to bury Anthony. She eagerly anticipates Luke's gratitude and dreams of him making out with her when he finds out what she did for him. She walks up to a small cabin, sees a shovel and puts Anthony in a wheelbarrow. Todd walks up and sees the car. He looks for the owners and recognizes Anthony. Heather comes out and tells him it is not what it looks like, but he doesn't care. She wants to see the baby. She won't give him the keys so he might as well. Heather works on him but it doesn't look good.

Stuck in the car, Tea looks at a picture of Victor and hopes the baby looks like him. She pleads for him to protect their baby! She decides to get out and yells for Todd. She gets no answer and starts walking. Not far away, John is lying in a ditch. He remembers Sam and struggles to get up, but limps off.

Jason arrives at the hotel and knocks on Sam's door. He wants to talk about the baby! He loves her and loves the baby and begs for her to open the door. Meanwhile, Sam is in McBain's room across the hall, rocking the baby. She's worried because he's not crying and wonders where John is. She decides not to wait and leaves the room, just missing Jason in the hallway. Jason goes into John's room, which is also empty. He sees Sam's dragon figurine as John walks in. He tells Jason he delivered Sam's baby and when he went to get the car his thugs showed up. Sam was weak and could not have gotten far on her own. They look but can't find her and realize she must have started walking. John tells Jason it is a boy, not that he cares.

In a shack in the woods, Heather works on the baby, but it is too late. The baby is gone. There is nothing they can do. Todd gets frazzled. What is he going to tell Tea? Heather tells him to find a way out -- she always has. She begins digging and tells him to forget about this other dead body since he has enough problems of his own. Sam comes upon the house and places the baby in a planter box outside. She goes in and passes out. Todd finds her, then hears a baby crying. He finds Sam's baby and realizes what has happened. He goes to take the baby back in to Sam when Tea walks up. She assumes the baby is hers and is overjoyed. Heather runs up and thinks she saved the baby. Tea is so thankful. Heather pulls Todd aside and wonders why he is not happier. He takes her inside and shows her Sam. Tea has Sam's baby! Heather tells him that Sam's husband did not want the baby and Sam probably was there to abandon him. This is the miracle they needed. He can't imagine giving Sam a dead baby but she tells him everyone will be better off. He needs to think outside the box. He agrees to her plan so long as no one ever knows. He joins Tea and they have their cell service back. He calls for an ambulance. Inside, Heather tells an unconscious Sam she is getting exactly what she deserves.

By the road, Jason sees a light and runs off. In the cabin, Heather holds Tea's dead baby and talks to an unconscious Sam. Her son is alive and blessed with a new mommy, and she'll never know the difference! Heather puts the baby outside where Sam had left hers. She hears Jason calling out and rushes off. Jason finds Sam, who wakes up. Where is her baby? She wonders why John didn't return to help them. Sam remembers leaving the baby outside. Jason finds him dead and whispers that he's sorry. Still outside, Jason realizes everyone was right . . . as soon as Jason held the baby, he loved him. How will he tell Sam he's gone? Sam calls out to Jason. Did he find her baby? Sam appears and Jason tells the baby died. Sam breaks down, but wants to hold him just one more time. When she looks at him, she stops crying and turns to Jason. This isn't her baby!

Todd brings Tea into the hospital and tells Steve how she had her baby on the side of the road. Tea thanks Todd for saving her son, who'd stopped breathing. Steve notes the baby's good health and wonders if Todd pulled this miracle off himself. Tea talks about the woman in the woods who helped Todd revive him and allows them to take the baby to the nursery. She can't believe her baby is alive thanks to him. Todd thinks back to the baby switch. . . . There's something he needs to tell her. Tea interrupts, as does Todd's cell. He takes a call from Starr and slips that Tea had her baby. After he hangs up, Todd overhears Tea calling Dani. Tea hangs up and relays Dani's thanks to Todd for taking care of her and the baby. The baby is brought back in. Tea wonders what Todd was going to tell her. Starr rushes in, gushes over the baby and hears that Todd delivered him. All Todd wanted to tell Tea was that he's happy for her. Tea still can't figure out who her baby looks like… her or Victor.

Sam takes the baby from Jason outside the house and looks at him. This isn't her baby! Her baby looked just like Jason! She insists this is not the baby she gave birth to but he gently tries to tell her it is.

In her hospital room, Tea holds her baby and doesn't think her looks like her -- or Victor. Todd shows up and wishes for everyone's sake he looked like Victor. She demands that he tell her what is bothering him, but Epiphany comes in to take the baby back to the nursery. She agrees to let Todd do it and when he leaves, he runs into Jason and Sam as they arrive. Todd watches from afar while Epiphany takes the dead baby from a crying Sam. A doctor looks her over and asks Jason for details about the delivery, then takes her to a room. Epiphany finds Todd and he asks if Sam will be okay. She tells him not really since there is nothing like losing a child. He wants Tea to transfer her to Llanview, but Epiphany refuses. They go over the birth certificate and she names him Victor. Meanwhile, Jason joins Sam in her room and he tells her she is going to be okay. She doesn't understand how this happened. Why didn't John come back with the car? A nurse comes and tells him to leave, but before he does, she wants to name the baby Jason, after his father.

In his motel room, McBain finds out from the hospital that Sam's baby didn't make it. Anna shows up and comes in. She wonders how he feels and he tells her about Sam losing the baby. Anna is worried he is feeling guilty. He is confused because the baby was healthy. He went to get the car, but was jumped. When he came back Sam was gone. She guesses the thugs were from Jason. McBain thinks if it weren't for him, maybe Sam would not have been there and could have gotten to the hospital in time. Now they will never know. Anna insists on taking him to the hospital.

In her room, Tea asks to see her baby. Todd tells her the baby is dead. She accuses him of killing her baby and screams at him -- but it's only a dream. Todd wakes up. Tea is holding the baby and is so happy. Steve comes in and tells them they can be discharged today. However, the baby has a potentially serious blood disorder, common with people of Italian or Greek ancestry. Tea is confused because she is 100 percent Puerto Rican. If she stays one more day in Port Charles, they can order the tests so she can know right away. Todd tells her he has a plane at PC airport and they can do the tests in Llanview. She agrees and he leaves to get a car.

Sam is in her room holding her son, but then wakes up and her arms are empty. Jason tells her it is going to be okay, but how can it be when her baby is dead? She just doesn't understand why John did not come back. Jason tries to explain something to her about the baby, but she is too upset to hear him out. As they are arguing, Alexis, Kristina and Molly show up. Sam tells them what happened while Jason leaves the room. He listens outside while she tells them about John not returning. He walks off and then Todd walks up and listens in on Sam. She must have passed out and when she woke up, Jason was there and the baby was dead. Alexis leaves to get Dr. Lee and runs into Todd outside. She warns him to stay away. She finds Jason and he tells her he is sorry about the baby. She wonders if he really is. She blames Jason for not being there for Sam. Inside, the girls say goodbye. Sam leaves the room and sees Tea in the hallway with her baby.

Todd comes back to Tea's room and Heather soon enters. She wants to have a chat!

Outside, Jason and John run into each other.

At the hospital John asks Jason how Sam is. He knows she must be devastated. John explains how happy she was when the baby was born. Jason fills John in on what Sam went through after the birth. Sam kept saying someone had taken her baby and left the dead one in it's place. John wishes he could have gotten her help, and Jason knows if the baby was in a hospital he would still be alive. They both feel guilty. Jason tells John he can handle Sam from here, but then some cops approach. The new police commissioner has instructed them to bring Jason in.

At GH, Heather tells Todd they need to talk. She has done her research on him, and will not be dismissed. He wonders why she is threatening him. Heather shrugs. They are just having a conversation. The nurse comes in to get the Tea's pamphlets. Todd runs off to get Tea while Heather calls after him.

Sam sees Tea with her baby outside her hospital room. Her baby, a boy too, did not make it and Tea is devastated for her. Sam asks if she can hold the baby, but before she can, Alexis walks up and takes Sam back in her room. Dr. Lee is there with news about the cause of death. There were no signs of the condition that was present before, but now the baby had hemophilia, a condition usually passed down through the mother. Plus, he died of respiratory failure. Sam is convinced that her son is still alive. Dr. Lee did not mean to get her hopes up, but if he was in the hospital he might have had a chance. John knocks on the door and Sam asks Alexis to leave. She wants to know why he did not come back for them. He tells her he ran into some trouble. A nurse comes in with food for Sam and suggests John take care of himself too. He leaves and the nurse tells Sam had been beaten. Jason comes back and she wants to ask him a question. He needs to tell her something first. That night, he was coming to promise to love her son as his father.

Tea gets the pamphlets outside Sam's room and thinks she won the genetic lottery. Her baby could have had hemophilia like her. As they wait for the elevator, Heather gets off and Tea recognizes her. She thanks her again but Heather is a private person and is concerned about Todd's paper. Tea insists they will respect her privacy. Todd agrees it never happened and they leave. She pulls out some lab results, but drops them. John walks by and picks them up for her before leaving. She thinks it is almost too easy, getting away with it. She looks at her lab results. The baby's father is Jason, not Franco!

At the hospital, Heather looks over the DNA results and pats herself on the back. Steve walks up and asks what she is holding. She brushes it off as nothing and asks how his day is. He has bad news. Sam lost her baby. She wonders why that is bad news. She read in the paper the baby is Franco's. Steve assures her Sam loved the bay no matter who the dad was. He has a lunch break coming up and wants her to wait for him. Maybe they can get BLTs. He leaves and she pulls out the results to look at them again. Heather wanders around the hospital, remembering when she made the switch. Steve comes back and she tells him she wishes there was something she could do to make it up to Sam.

In her hospital room, Jason tells Sam it was not fair for him to shut her out, and that is why he came to the motel. She accuses him of lying because she knows he had John beat up. He admits it, but he had to get John out of the way. She informs Jason that their problem was not John, it was his inability to love the baby. Her son is dead and it is Jason's fault! He apologizes but she does not think he is sorry. Didn't he think she had doubts? She was the one who was raped. All that mattered to her was that she was finally going to be a mom and he wanted her to give the baby away. Now he got what he wanted. She tells him they can't go back and what they had was broken. He tells her he is not giving up but she screams for him to leave. He pulls the dragon out of his pocket and places it on her tray before leaving. Heather comes in and hopes Sam can be comforted by the fact her baby is in a better place.

In her hospital room, Sam is looking at the dragon when Liz shows up. She knows losing a child is the worst thing that can happen. Liz thinks she and Jason should talk so she doesn't have to grieve alone. Sam goes off on Liz and unloads about how she needed Jason's love from the start, not now when the baby is conveniently dead. God forbid she makes Jason uncomfortable. She has had to tiptoe around his feelings when she was the one who was raped. Liz continues to defend Jason when Sam tells her to go to him, put her arms around him and dry his tears! It is over between them and he is all hers. Liz asks her why she is still holding the dragon then.

Jason is looking at the phoenix at home when Carly shows up. She has not heard from him and was worried. He tells her he and Sam are over and that the baby is dead. He goes over the baby's delivery and finding the baby. He tells Carly she was right -- as soon as he picked up the baby he loved him. Jason cries a little and Carly tells him it is not his fault. But that was when his thugs got to John, so Sam thinks it was. Carly pressures him to go not give up. Sam needs him.

Outside her hotel room, Sam holds onto the dragon before putting it in her pocket. John comes up and she starts to faint. John catches her and gets her inside. She knows what happened with the beating and he tries to cover for Jason, but she stops him. She will never forgive Jason for that! She wants to thank him for everything but is going to stay with her mom. He tells her that he is leaving too. He fills her in on his history with Sonny and some day he is going to make him pay. She wonders again why he seems so familiar and he tells her maybe they will know someday. He hopes she finds what she is looking for and says goodbye. She grabs him and holds him tight before letting go. She packs up her stuff, but leaves Jason's dragon behind.

Liz and Jason grab a drink at The Floating Rib. He tells her Sam blames him about the baby but she tells him there was no guarantee he would have survived in the hospital. Plus, there was a time Sam watched her son get kidnapped and watched them search for him but said nothing. Now he will regret what he did like she regrets that. Sam also told Liz they were over and Jason was all hers. He doesn't want to talk about this right now. He asks her how things are with Ewen and if he does not treat her right, he will answer to Jason. He hugs her and tells her she deserves to be happy. She leaves and he pulls out his phoenix. He places it on the pool table and leaves.

Jason is at the Quartermaines when Michael shows up. He wonders why Jason is not at the funeral. He will never know if Sam will forgive him if he doesn't try. Michael was the first baby Jason ever held and he remembers how tiny he was. Now look at him. Sam will never get the time he has had with Michael with her own son. That is what he took from her. Michael encourages him to go to the funeral and leaves.

Carly knocks on Todd's door at the Metro Court and he makes sure his abs look good before she enters. She stops for a second, then hands him his free paper. Of course, since he is on the cover, he has already seen it. She asks him to put a shirt on, but he thinks it is fine since she is in a committed relationship. He has just been going over his holdings, which now includes Crimson. He bought the parent company and changed the name to Manning Enterprises -- ME. She is impressed and shocked that he is making such a serious commitment in Port Charles. He wants to stay around Starr. He wonders what Carly thinks of the paper and she shows Todd the article about Sam's baby. She comments how sad it is and he agrees. She explains how Sam had such a hard time getting pregnant. He looks torn and tells her no one should ever have to lose a child. She leaves and Todd remembers the night of the baby switch. He gets his coat and leaves quickly.

Meanwhile, Sam, her sisters and Alexis are at the funeral for the baby. Sam starts to cry and apologizes for not being stronger. She never got to see her daughter or hold her. But with her son, he was so warm and beautiful. She misses him so much she can't even breathe. She can't stop thinking about that night, but Alexis hopes she can think of how he was when she held him, not when he died. Spinelli, Michael and Carly all arrive and hug Sam. Todd watches from afar and Carly is surprised to see him before he walks off. Everyone leaves, but Sam stays. She looks over the news article and cries, alone, until Jason shows up.

Todd returns to his room at the Metro Court. Heather shows up. She thinks the story about the baby swap would be great front page news . . .

Heather throws the paper at Todd in his hotel room and thinks their baby swap story could be front page news. He tries to throw her out but she wants a job. The bigger they are the harder they fall, and he will fall pretty hard if Sam finds out her baby is alive. He would not have done it if she hadn't said Sam did not want that baby. Heather shrugs. Did she say that? Why focus on the past? She wants to start a new life with her new man -- and a new job. Todd caves. If she stops talking about dead babies she can have the job. She agrees and he hires her. He asks what she is good at and knows it is obvious -- style editor. He is thinking funny pages. Maybe obits. She'll get back to him, but for now needs an advance on her salary. He gives her the cash.

At the cemetery, Jason tells Sam he is sorry the baby is gone. He regrets what he has done, and she keeps going through all of the what-ifs too. If she did not find Heather Webber, none of this would have happened. She pulls out the poem Molly read and reads to him. She is crying and he puts his hand on her. He wants her to let him help her through it. He still loves her and wants to move on together. Sam can't and runs off.
